United Nations & Midget

Ok, this is a unique complaint & comment & revision post.

Here, I shall share what I have learnt about International Law & Institutions. In particular, the United Nations. Important stuff I learn here man... USP students should all take this course.

Somehow, back in USP I have a feeling that the Artsy people all have delusions of paradise when it comes to politics between States. Looking at the ASEAN focus shit and all those stuff, the mock-UN things. How to better the quality of life in those poor developing countries. Sigh... I admit, I have never been to those "conferences"... but I can't help shake the feeling that a bunch of juvenile naive kids come together and cook up great suggestions on how to improve the world. Like Midget. For those of you who know Midget (which is only one of you and it's going to stay that way)... Midget is an Arts Student. As the name implies, she is very petite like a midget. Quite cute also... reminds me of P, and her cuteness is enhanced by her naivete. So Midget if you are reading this, hope you learn something from WL lessons in World Politics. No... don't cry... the world is dark and horrible, sorry to spoil the Carebears and Stuffed Toys.

What do you think when I talk about UN? Be honest!!! Humanitarian Aid? World Peace? World's Hope for the Future? Equality? Justice? Compassion? Free Carebears & Hugs?

BULLSHIT!!! ALL BULLSHIT!!!

Kiddies, let me tell you what the UN is. The UN is nothing but the extension of the Great Powers (i.e. America, Britain, France, China & Russia). As my prof remarked, and I think it's a great misconception in us kiddies everywhere, the UN is not about helping humanity. The UN is about the Great Powers introducing their Order, their Will onto the world. Oh... don't cry man.

States are selfish. States are bastards. States don't give a fuck about how many unfed people they are in the South. The Carebears & Stuffed Toys aspect of the UN you see is but a mere side product of the original purpose that the UN was conceived for.

Look, I'm not saying that the Great Powers are using UN to take over the world, but it is undeniable that UN sets a lot of norms for international behavior... and who decides on those norms? The Great Powers!

Remember, the UN was created after WW2 to further the interest of the winners (i.e. Great Powers). It was never primarily meant to spread hugs & kisses!!!

As prof said, the UN only does what that the Great Powers allow it to do. US invaded Iraq! Get the UN to condemn it... Don't be stupid! The US will veto the UN condemnation of the US invasion of Iraq. LKY is repressing us Sinkaporeans, get the UN to do something... Don't be stupid! The UN is founded on the premise of sovereignty of each Nation State. The internal affairs of a country is strictly off-limit to UN actions.

So don't have high hopes on the UN. It's on a tight leash on the Great Powers. And it will probably stay that will under the next major shakeup in the "Balance of Power".

Most important takehome lesson... States are selfish bastards. So in the same context, why does ASEAN exist? Because the ASEAN nations want to spread hugs to its poorer members? NO!!! ASEAN exist because the members of ASEAN wanted to exist, and it will serve the function that further the interest of its members. If giving hugs to kids is on the list of their interest... it will happen. If not, no point clamoring on it... it's never going to happen!\

So USP artsy dudes, the next you come and sit down to discuss. Use a different approach. We Nations are selfish fuckers. What common grounds of similar interest can we find, that will also benefit society as a whole (as a side-product)?
