The most efficient accommodation in NUS is unfortunately only PGP Room A. Thanks to NUS and their great "justifications", the prices have soared, and will continue to soar.
Assuming WL applies for PGP Room B, which cost S$2625 per year.
Morning commute time takes about 1hr from home, and Night commute time takes about 45min. Thus a total of 1hr 45min is spent per day on commuting.
If WL stays in PGP, let's assume that commute time is 15min. That means that I can save 1hr 15min per day.
Assuming that WL remains in PGP for the entire semester and not go home (unlikely scenario), that means he will save a little less than 9hr per day.
Given that the weekly rate is S$80, WL is paying $9.14/hr to earn more "free time".
The big assumption here is 100% efficiency. It assumes that all the extra time I gain is spent doing productive work.
Assuming that actual efficiency is 70%, which is an optimistic number that increases the cost to $13.06/hr.
So is it worth it???
